After deciding to build the 1967 Mini Cooper S that won the Monte Carlo Rally, i thought it would look better if it was weathered, and sat in a diorama.
I had a 12inch square bit of MDF cut at my local DIY shop, it cost 95pence (about 1 dollar 30?)
i used MDF primer then measured out where the tarmac was going to go, i painted that a muddy brown colour, which was an emulsion test pot that was sitting around the garage.
i then used wood glue to glue a couple of small branches and bark out the garden. i also sandwiched three layers of old ply wood that was kicking about. So far this build has cost 95p.
i then went to my local model shop and bought Scenic Tarmac @ £1.10. i spread wood glue of the board, scattered the tarmac, then sprayed a mist of water, with a little washing up liquid, to break surface tension.
all was left for 48 hrs, i then went to knock off any wood and scatter that hadn't stuck, but everything was well stuck.
the jobs still to do are scribe some plasticard / styrene sheet to make a wall up the ply. scatter long grass on the ply, and possibly make a fence? or some kind of point of interest on the ply?
i also want to knock up a signpost, i've found a couple of great reference photos on google images.
