The 2012 Honda CR-V has already been seen, more or less, with Honda’s release of two images of the Honda CR-V Concept, but our spy photographers were still prepared to take a few shots of the production version as it endured some testing in Southern Europe. Details behind the production model are still somewhat being kept under wraps, but expect the full launch to come around in Summer 2012.
What we do know is that the CR-V will have a front-wheel-drive set-up for most of the available versions with the all-wheel-drive variant set to come as an added option. It should be powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder iVTEC engine that delivers 180 horsepower at 6,800 rpm and 161 lb/ft of torque at 4,400 rpm, carried over from the 2011 model. Europe-bound models could carry a 2.2-liter iDTEC diesel engine that produces 165 horsepower.
Th exterior design of the CR-V is a bit more aggressive than the previous model illustrating Honda’s attempt to appeal to a higher end market. Rumors have also suggested that the company has thrown in another row of seats for better accommodations.
We’ll find out more about the 2012 Honda CR-V soon enough, but for now we’ll settle for building up even higher expectations for the new generation of one of the top-selling crossovers in the world. Honda’s stated that the new design for the crossover will set a new standard for the class and we can’t wait to see if they pull it off.
